Education Mission 2013

In academic year 2013-2014, there several students from poor families were worrying
about their uncertain future since school fees for the new academic year (2013-2014)
were beyond what their parents can afford. Even though in Vietnam tuition fees are free
for students from elementary to high school, but the costs of school fees (for the
structural and administrative costs of schools. Class stationary, water, and electricity) are
mandatory. School fees are varied from 50 USD – 150 USD per student depending on the
level of his/her education. Apart, parents also had to bear the burden of extracurricular
expenses such as school uniforms, books and stationery. In total, parents are expected to
spend around from 80 USD – 200 USD for each child in the new academic year. For
that, (The Compassion Flower) TCF has granted scholarships, donated bicycles,
uniforms, and stationeries to 550 underprivileged students from Primary to Tertiary
education. These students chiefly come from rural districts and remote villages of Thua
Thien - Hue and the border districts A Luoi and Quang Tri, the mountainous areas of
Huong Thuy, Huong Phong, Nam Đong and some regions in Quang Nam Province that
frequently suffer from natural disasters.
TCF also subsidized 15 dollars per month for living expenses to students with special
situations. 30 bicycles were donated to poor students who live more than 5 km distance
from school.
There also 5 portable & 2 built-in libraries were gifted to schools of Quang Tri, Thua
Thien Hue and Quang Nam.
