Thuy Bang Library Project - Is a joined project of several NGOs (VA-
NGO Network, Think About TheChildren, Our1World, The
Compassion Flower and Global Village Foundation).
For this project, we have purchased:
- - Reference books, dictionaries, fiction and non-fictionjuvenile
materials
- - Computer system and a laser printer; Solar fan; Reading
lamps
- - Textbooks to lend to students in poor families. Many kids are
kept out of school because their parents cannot come up with
enough money. The textbooks certainly help ease the financial
burdens of poor families and bring many children back to the
classroom.
Thuy Bang secondary school currently has 358 students (whereas
60 students are from The Duc Son orphanage), 70% of students are
from poverty-stricken families.
There were 2 stages of the project.
- The first started in 08/2008 and completed in 10/2008.
- The secondf inished in 03/2009.
At the end of the final stage, we organized: Painting competitions
(individual andteamwork) on environment and recycled art
competitionto promote awareness on environmental protection
andconservation among school children. Writing contestabout the
benefit of using the library. For eachcategory, 3 prizes were awarded.
